I propose a deeper reflection on our Time and its quality, opposing Times of a recent past.
Time determined by celestial phenomena exists.
But the passing of time is relative, and it is this Time that interests me.
The starting point for this project were the holiday postcards. when we traveled abroad, we use too write postcards to our parents describing the events, what we had seen, the adventures and surprises, sending kisses, and our longing… (in Portuguese we have a special word “Saudade”) in short, it aim to bring us closer together and shorten the distance, with those who were most important to us.
They were carefully thought out and selected images, the texts written and re-written. We would go to the post office and by a stamp, preferably a pretty one, past it on the envelope that we deposited in the mailbox.
The journey as began!… We counted the days with our mind on, how would they going to receive the news, what would they be doing when the postman knocked on the door, would they share the news with our grandparents and siblings? Our imagined and dreamed journey….
Sometimes when we returned from our vacation, the letters still hadn’t arrived….
The time we spend away is different for us and when we come back everything is the same except us.
Time has many times!
How long is time?
Piece
Composed by an translucent envelope, handcrafted by me, where I handwrite the address of the recipient and sender. I buy a nice stamp at the post office, of course!
Contains a postcard – watercolour paper 300g. with cyanotype active emulsion (non developed), on the back I handwrite a personal message to the recipient. In side there is a self-adhesive label, pre-filled with my details, which I ask to be pasted on theirs, when they send the mail back.
It also contains a Cyanotype made by me, which I offer to the recipient.
